Have you ever uttered those words,
or wanted to?
You've just heard the news... a friend or family member has been placed in a skilled nursing facility.  Your gut reaction is one of dread, sadness, sympathy.  You have images of crazy old people
wearing diapers
, drooling, and wandering around in their white gowns.  Every news story you've ever heard about abuse and deplorable conditions enters your mind.
You are heartsick to hear that your loved one has been forced to go to one of "those places".

It doesn't have to be that way.
In fact, it shouldn't be that way.

My name is Amy, and I am here to help calm some of your fears, and to try to clear up many of the misconceptions people have about nursing homes.  For more about me and my background, please visit my about me page.

Whether you are faced with choosing a nursing home, visiting a loved one, or just interested in what really happens in a nursing home, I'll try to answer your questions here.

Most nursing homes provide good quality care, in a safe, clean environment. Of course, there are always exceptions- if you really think the nursing home your loved one is living in is substandard, you'll want to check out the guidelines and standards section.
